Anyone up for a day on the water for a snapper trip? Last minute decision to run to Main Pass block area. must have LA fishing license. Running out of BSL this weekend.

We decided to make a last minute fishing trip for some red snapper. We wanted to stock up on some snapper before they closed the federal season. We went to one of our favorite rigs and it was on. We fished about 2 hours and we were headed back to cypress cove.

    QuickTip: Make sure you have…

Well after a learning a lesson on the last trip, we managed to make up for it this time. Instead of beating the crowd out, a stop at the end of Northeast Pass and within 45 mins there were enough pogies for at least 2-3 hrs of tuna fishing. Its no secret now where the tuna are, we elected to go to…

Finally after nearly a 7 month hiatus from the gulf waters Striker Tackle was able to make a trip in the 29' SeaVee. We spent the better part of the day chasing tuna, unfortunately with the wrong bait, we should have spent more time gathering up live pogies instead of trying to beat the crowd to…

Congratulations... but I am not happy to see that fish. Wish they were not here! For those that don't know, lionfish are a newly arrived invasive species. They are not suppose to be here.

A bay skiff is all that's needed to make a short run offshore in calm seas for anglers Donald Mooney and Jim Anderson to catch a double-header on hard-fighting amberjacks using DOA 'TerrorEyz' jigs.

Red snapper season offers a good time to collect a wide variety of offshore sport fish.

Anglers Jim Anderson and Donald Mooney light up the ocean with light tackle in deep water. Jigging wrecks with medium-weight tackle is a fun and fast way of getting into hard-fighting alamaco jacks.

While not rare, African pompano aren't caught every day in every coastal area, so they're reason to get excited. Beautiful, hard-fighting, and good on the dinner table, bottom fishermen working reefs and wrecks encounter them.

A small snapper is hauled topside from a reef, drawing up HUGE barracuda and amberjacks, that have other plans for the snapper than a fisherman taking it home.

So we went out for a day of snapper and bottom fishing....and who came along? The U.S. Navy....great escort to keep us safe and free off our homeland coast. God Bless America!!! The U.S.S. Harry S. Truman.

You don't need a big boat for big offshore fish.
