I'm Elizabeth Ratcliff from Canton, MS. I'm 21 and have been hunting for the past 13 years. A year ago in October my boyfriend had moved just east of Canton by my family and bought a small 5 acre plot. Of course, the first thing we did was build the stand and plant a food plot. We put up cameras and to our amazement we had a nice 10 point. Excited was not the word for us. For the rest of the season Jimmy, my boyfriend, hunted every chance he could and saw him at dark one afternoon, shot and missed. The next week I wasn't able to hunt and I begged him not to hunt my plot, unfortunately he listened to me and didn't. He can see my plot from his climber and at 3:30 that afternoon, the 10 point made his presence 20 yards from my stand. I, of course, was sick that I had missed it. The last time we ever saw him was on January 1st, 2011, on the camera. We have kept the camera in 5 different spots trying to catch a glimpse of him and being December, had finally come to the conclusion that someone else got our trophy buck.... Until we checked the cameraWednesday night. There he was, with one new kicker, making him a nice trophy 11 point. Jimmy called me ecstatic! The buck was still here and Jimmy was going to hunt him Thursday. We moved his climber and thought of all the ways of how he'd walk by him. Thursday came and he was on the stand at 3 o'clock, where he'd been everyday since the season opened and I made it to my regular plot around 3:30 and awaited the arrival of the mama and 2 babies that come out everyday around 4, checked my solunar to see what time they should be moving and sat and waited. I was on time with the usual 3 and around 5 o'clock a stray doe walked across the plot, not letting up or acknowledging the other 3. I found this odd and put my gun up to check her out. As soon as I moved I heard a grunt. I have been hunting for 13 years and never heard a grunt. I knew when the other deer took off that something big was coming. And I was saying don't be the big one because I need him to walk in front of Jimmy. All I saw was feet and a body and I knew it was in fact, the monster we had been stalking. I cocked my gun and looked thru my scope and there he stood. The deer we've been looking for for over a year. I waited for him to step out from behind the tree and knew if I didn't shoot, he'd be gone. He looked at me dead in the scope and I put the crosshairs on his chest and boom. He dropped in his tracks. The first person I managed to call was Jimmy and my mom. All I could muster up was don't be mad but I just got big boy! The big boy was finally down. Jimmy was so excited that it was like he had gotten it, which I still felt kinda bad because he had put so much work into this hunting this buck. Needless to say, I had to stay in the stand for 5 minutes because my legs were shaking so bad. It was an experience and buck of a lifetime for me. As soon as we cleaned him, I took him to get scored. He scored a 147 7/8 and weighed in at 232 lbs. This beyond excited me, since I had said a rough 130. I'm not one to brag but I am beyond excited about this hunt and my deer and just wanted to share it with y'all
