  • Early Season Noxubee Wildlife Refuge Buck

In my first season bow hunting, I really didn't know what to expect. The Noxubee County National Wildlife Refuge is where this one was taken on Oct. 3, 2011. It is my first buck with a bow, and I couldn't have asked for the hunt to go any smoother.

After a long day of classes at Mississippi State University, I decided to get in the stand that afternoon. It was 75-80 degrees and the mosquitos were all over me, but I decided to tough it out. Around 5:30 this big boy strolled 20 yards directly in front of my stand. He stood behind a thick oak tree, giving me a perfect opportunity to draw my bow back unnoticed. Poking at some acorns, he slowly made his way around the tree and presented me with a perfect shot. He didn't make it 40 yards from where the arrow went through him. Harvesting this buck with my bow is something I will treasure for the rest of my life.
Great job, CBrown. The kill proves that more important than the weather is being in the stand.
