  • 300 trout in two days plus more!!!

Over 300 trout in the last two days between the boats in our fleet! Been non stop the last few days but here is the greatest hits...
Spent all day Wednesday in Abita springs getting my trolling motor fixed at Dixie Trolling motors. Jarred worked his magic again and got it back working, thanks man.
Thursday I had Robbie Bishop and his crew from Hattiesburg. These guys won the trip from the CCA Pinebelt banquet this winter. Wind blew and we tried to make it across from Lafrances, failed! Spent the morning in the Rigolets and made a day of it. We pitched marsh works killa squilla shrimp in the clear pattern under the popping cork for 7 hours against flooded grass on leeward banks. Somehow put 10 keeper trout, 2 reds and 5 flounder in the box in 20mph winds. Not the best day I ever had, but was very proud of the crew working hard in less than poor weather conditions. Put the boat on the trailer and headed across town to the world famous Bay Marina for an afternoon trip. Stopped at Bobs Crabs in Bayou Caddy for a dozen blue crabs(saved the day). Met up with George Guilgon and his crew from Albany, NY. These guys are in town for a wedding and had a few hours to fish. The bay was protected and we went to work fast. Spent 3 hours hooked up on the reefs and bridges. Big drum, little drum, redfish, flounder, white trout, ground mullet, and one fat speck kept us busy. The crab was the tickett and kept the little fish off the hooks. Several times all three guys were hooked up with drag pullers. Long day, but a fun with two great crews.
Friday was the one we have all been waiting for. Everyone I saw and talked to loaded the boat with trout. We had four boats out and all came back to the dock with great catches. Capt Matt and myself had the Brent Johnson group and both boats got limits of nice trout. We used live shrimp under popping corks and on carolina rigs to get our 75. I was fishing over shells and Capt Matt still won't tell me where he got his 75 fatties. Both boats did find some bull reds, and Matts boat had the biggest flounder I have seen in years. Capt Kyle and Capt Kenny ran a short trip out of the Rigolets. Three hours on the water and the boys put 70 something trout in the box and never went into the MS sound or Lake Borgne! The bite was so good, that Capt Kyle took his 1 person charter back today to get his 25 trout. He also caught puppy drum and flounder.
Today I had the JEM group, Cahill, Brennan, Jimmy and Henry Martinez along for the ride. This group does not stay late or keep many fish. They made it till almost noon before they pulled the plug. Did find bigger trout fishng with the live shrimp on the bottom. Cahill got top honors again with a big bull red and the most trout. Headed in with flat calm seas, with 42 big keepers, 20 more than they usually keep. They released all the ground mullet, white trout, sheepshead, and bull red to fight another day. Talked to Capt Matt on the VHF he had just put his 16th red in the box and was working on the trout. Later heard he hit the dock in Bayou Caddy with 41 big trout for his crew. I know the boys will post their pics since I got to type the report. Weather has been nothing short of perfect the last two days, lets hope it stays that way.
