  • My son's first 'racked' buck

This is my sons 1st racked buck, 2nd ever. We were in a blind in a hay field watching the back of a growed up crp thicket. We hunted saturday afternoon, sunday morning seeing plenty of deer. I told my son ' That a big buck will be killed here if you just have patience. ' Well it paid off sunday afternoon. we got in the blind around 3:30 p.m., shortly after a doe and yearling came out a feed a short while and then left. As it approached ' Magic hour ' it got still and quiet. I told my son to ready his gun, we should start seeing deer soon. A doe and 2 yearlings came out, then a few minutes later I seen another deer approaching, which turned out to be a big 3 pt.. He got his gun on him, then he started saying 'big buck, big buck', I looked and there at the end of the lane at about 200 yds. there he stood just inside the wood line. I told my boy to wait til he came out into the open. Finally he stepped out fully as darkness approached. I told my boy to put it on his shoulder and squeeze the trigger. He let it rip and the deer wheeled back into the woods running funny. We went to the house and got flashlights because I left without them. Got back and proceeded to trail the deer, 100 yds. later we came up on the buck and the celebrating began. After we got the buck to the house, my son informed me that his deer was bigger than anything I had on the wall, and his was getting mounted. I replied.. ' I guess I have to catch up now. ' To all that took their kids or a younster hunting I hope your hunt was as memorable as ours. Good luck and good hunting.
